monthly discussions

this event is happening in Chardon, Ohio, at the Geauga County Public Library. learning how to "initiate positive change" at the library is tremendous.

An Afternoon of Civil Discourse on September 11

The Library is a place where those of differing opinions can come together to discuss controversial issues and there is no better day on which to do it than September 11. We will hold the first of a monthly series of discussions with Dr. Mike Whitely asking you to "Think Globally, Act Locally about Peace". Dr. Whitely, a professor at Kent State University in Educational Psychology, was in New York at Ground Zero as a fire fighter to help with the rescue efforts. He will demonstrate how you can initiate positive change within your local community and beyond.

The topics for subsequent discussion in the Civil Discourse series will be selected by those who attend. There will be a discussion leader and several invited guests who have expertise or a special interest in the topic. And then we will talk – civilly - and try to understand those who disagree with us, and perhaps reevaluate our own points of view. Refreshments will be served.
Please call Chardon Library to register.

The pain of 9/11 will not leave our memories no more than Pearl Harbor, John Kennedy, or Katrina. Great tragedies are good for us because they remind us that we are not "in charge." We not only have a built in desire to believe in something bigger than ourselves, we have a need for God. In terms of 9/11, the Islamic faith has replaced a genuine need and relationship with God for religious intolerance. Killing those who don't believe as the Muslims do is esteemed and seen as "the only way" to heaven. How that message contrasts with "the only way" in the Christian faith - following Jesus in loving your enemies and your neighbors (of different race, color, creed, religion, etc.). We remember 9/11 to honor the innocent men, women, and children who died because of the insanity of killing people in the name of God. It's time to wake and understand the nature of spiritual warfare and walk in the power of his might.

As a teen arab and muslim girl living in the most beautiful city in the world which is NEWYORK(THE BIG APPLE).I would have to admit that the TERROR of 9/11 had brought too much tears to my heart, seeing innocent people dieing for something they have nothing to do with.
It also reminds me of how we the MUSLIMS,JEWS and those from other beleifs had suffered throughout the history.all that killing is because of different beliefs and thoughts.i was brought up believing that we all are god's children. why can't we just accept each others differences??? If Bin laden was a REAL muslim, he would've followed what our prophet used to do to others from different beliefs. ESPECIALLY THE CHRISTIANS AND JEWS,he used to treat them in a very kind way beacause they also believe in one god, and they have a Holy Book.
BINLADEN is the biggest terrosit. he's using Islam as a cover up for his own evil political agendas.all of those suicide bombers are going straight to HELL.because they're killing innocent children, women and men.those terrosits who think thats "the only way" for them to get to HEAVEN,they're only illuding themselves.ISLAM is innocent from them.America had given some people rights that they can never get in their own back home countries.YEMEN is the country where i originally come from, i love it, but i also consider AMERICA my second homeland.
the American people helped us (the arabs)when we were in need for people to understand our sufferings.they stood up for us aginst the war in IRAQ even though i personally supported it because a dectator like SADDAM HUSAIN had to be out. and only AMERICA can do it.
This is a fact that everyone has to accept.at last i would truely send my condolences to those who lost their loved ones in the 9/11 tragedy and katrina.may god help you all.
ONE god!
ONE peace!
ONE strong nation!!!!!
